Bella pulled into her driveway and climbed out of her truck with a rueful glance at the overcast sky. February in Forks was... yeah, pretty much the same as most months in forks, only colder. She and Jacob wouldn't have been able to ride their bikes today even if he had been speaking to her. Which he still wasn't.

She took note of the darkened windows and the porch light and realized that Charlie must be working late, or, more doubtfully, over at Billy Black's. She found herself hoping for the latter if only so she could try to pry some details about what was up with Jacob. Bella found herself doubting the whole mono story -- surely he would've at least picked up the phone and assured her he was okay if that were the real story?

It was funny, or possibly sad, how much she'd come to depend on Jacob's friendship to get her through her days. February had been downright tolerable in comparison to what had come before. It was hard to tell for sure, but Bella thought she might be remembering what it felt like to hope for things again.

She unlocked her front door, hoping, at the moment, that Charlie had left something edible in the fridge for her.

It's a small house, in a small state, on a small continent, in a small world. Held like a bauble in the deep black midnight sky that stretched endless through universes on universes, a rippling cosmos that was only one part physical.

But in that expanse were tiny shining lights which called to others ones.

Like this house, watched over for so very long now. All but visibly.
